2nd Comox Valley Sustainability Forum

On October 20, voters in the Comox Valley will be electing mayors, councillors, school district board members and electoral area directors.

Local government, be it in a village, town, city or electoral area, shapes the community it serves with its decision making. Therefore, it’s critical we ensure our elected officials adopt policies and bylaws that will form the basis for creating both a sustainable community and environment, not only for ourselves but for future generations.

The CV Global Awareness Network, CV Council of Canadians and Imagine Comox Valley invite the public, members of local government and candidates standing for office in the October municipal elections to learn more about the possibilities of reaching sustainable solutions to current issues and problems being faced in the Comox Valley in their second Sustainability Forum on Wednesday Sept. 19th at 7 PM.

The evening will begin with an introduction to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, followed with an overview of the goals outlined in the Regional Growth Strategy and Official Community Plans and why these matter to the well-being of our Comox Valley communities.

Five speakers will present information on a range of issues ranging from public health and local economic development to climate change and infrastructure. Following each presentation, there will be an opportunity for questions.

Whether you are a voter who is seeking to understand the need for a proactive approach to enacting sustainable policies and programs or a candidate in the 2018 municipal election – this Forum will address what is currently taking place in the Valley and how we can move our communities toward sustainable solutions.

Everyone is invited! Bring a friend to the second Comox Valley Sustainability Forum, Wednesday, Sept 19 at 7 pm in the K’omoks Band Hall, 3330 Comox Rd, Courtenay.

Sustainability Forum Presentations – May 2018

With municipal elections coming in October this October, the first Comox Valley Sustainability Forum was designed to inform voters – and prospective candidates – about the creative work being spearheaded by local non-profits to find solutions to a variety of inter-related problems we face as a society, and to offer options for creating a more sustainable community.

All issues covered in the first Forum fall within the mandate of our local municipal councils – be it the Village of Cumberland, the Town of Comox, the city of Courtenay or the three electoral areas.

Click on the links below to access the presentations that were given at the first Sustainability Forum.  As a voter, you can use this information to ask pointed questions of local municipal candidates running for office this October.

If you’re a candidate, consider the thoughtful solutions that have been presented…and get in touch with the organizations for further details.
