To get in the spirit of Canada Day and the Courtenay Centennial celebrations, the Comox Valley Council of Canadians is hosting their ninth annual Oh Canada! Team Trivia Night. To accommodate demand, this popular event will move to a new location at the Rotary Hall of the Florence Filberg Center, 411 Anderton Road, Courtenay. Doors open at 6:15 pm, Saturday June 6, with trivia questions beginning at 7pm.
This is a great opportunity, whatever your level of Canuck wisdom, to challenge your wits and learn about Canada’s rich arts, cultural, sports and social history in a fun-filled community event that’s for a good cause. The evening will feature food from Farmers’ Market favourite Tin Town Tacos, as well as refreshments, door prizes and a 50/50 draw, with proceeds supporting AIDS Vancouver Island Comox Valley.
“Our dynamic and ever-popular quizmaster Andrew Black is back with trivia questions that are guaranteed to challenge our most patriotic citizens,” says Marilyn Hannah, one of the event’s organizers. “We always enjoy an evening of laughter – and a few groans and moans – as we test our knowledge of all that makes us Canadian.”
Black will include a range of topics and difficulties in the questions, along with some surprises. “This is an opportunity to raise awareness of our great country in an entertaining way,” says Black, “while also raising funds for the important work of the Council of Canadians.”
The fundraiser supports the Comox Valley chapter’s work on social and environmental justice. Current campaigns include challenging national corporate rights and free trade deals, lobbying for increased funding for public health care and working for better protection of our drinking water resources.
Oh Canada! Team Trivia Night is the perfect time for lovers of amusing facts and collectors of trivia to gather some friends, build a team of eight, and prepare for a rousing tournament. Individual quizzers and teams must pre-register by May 25.
