To get in the spirit of this year’s Canada Day celebrations, the Comox Valley Council of Canadians is hosting their eighth annual Oh Canada! Team Trivia Night. This popular local event is open to all and takes place at 7pm on Saturday June 7, at d’Esterre House, Comox Seniors Centre, 1801 Beaufort Avenue, in Comox.
The evening of fun and fundraising will also feature savoury delights served by Farmers’ Market favourite Tin Town Tacos, as well as refreshments, lots of door prizes and a 50/50 draw, with proceeds supporting AIDS Vancouver Island North.
This is a great opportunity to test your knowledge of Canadiana as teams square off in a welcoming and relaxed, yet action-packed, trivia showdown. Whatever your current level of Canuck wisdom, don’t miss this chance to test your knowledge and learn about Canada’s rich arts, cultural and social history in a community event.
“Our dynamic and ever-popular quizmaster Andrew Black is back by demand with trivia questions that are guaranteed to challenge the wits of our most patriotic Canucks,” says Marilyn Hannah, one of the event’s organizers. “We always enjoy an evening of laughter – and a few groans and moans – as we test our knowledge of all that is Canadian.”
Andrew Black will include a range of topics and difficulties in the questions, and is sure to include some surprises. “This is an opportunity to raise awareness of our great country in an entertaining way,” says Black, “while also raising funds for the important work of the Council of Canadians.”
The fundraiser supports the Comox Valley chapter on several campaigns important to Canadians. These projects range from challenging various national corporate rights and free trade deals, to the local chapter’s Blue Communities initiative. This project aims to get expensive single-serve bottled water out of municipal buildings, and to encourage using tap water and reusable bottles instead, by installing water refilling stations at more public venues.
The Oh Canada! Team Trivia Night is the perfect time for lovers of amusing facts and collectors of trivia to gather some brilliant buddies, build a team of eight, and prepare for a rousing tournament.
Individuals and teams of eight should pre-register by May 30. For more information and to register, call Kathie at 250-334-4608, email firstname.lastname@example.org
