Cumberland Council recently demanded British Collumbia negotiate a clear, permanent exemption for local governments from CETA
After watching a series of videos about CETA (Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement) at a regular meeting, a subcommittee was formed to develop an action plan. Currently, the 6 member committee is preparing presentations to the Regional District and the municipalities of Courtenay and Comox, urging them to pass a motion requesting more information from the federal and provincial governments and exclusion of municipal governments from the provisions of CETA. The Village of Cumberland passed such a motion in December, 2011.
